Raymond B. Shoemaker

Raymond B. Shoemaker, 90, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Hershey Medical Center. Born, Saturday, November 12, 1927 in Rapho Twp., he was the son of the late Amos Hawk Shoemaker and Anna Mary (Baker) Shoemaker. He was married 59 years to Esther Ruth (Garman) Shoemaker who passed away in August 2008.

Raymond and his wife were the proprietors of Grandma’s Family Restaurant in Mount Joy. He was also retired from Continental Press where he was the maintenance supervisor, and previously worked for Hawthorne Electric. Raymond was a US Army veteran of WWII. He also liked to tinker, and raised geese and chickens.

He is survived by 10 children: Bonita J. Martin, Ephrata; Robert L. Shoemaker and wife Deborah of Tamaqua; Linda R. Brubaker and husband Lou of Hershey; James R. Shoemaker and wife Kelly of New Cumberland; Joseph R. Shoemaker and wife Donna of Harrisburg; Richard A. Shoemaker of Mount Joy; Gary L. Troop and wife Deedee of Quarryville; Mitch D. Shoemaker and wife Glenda of Elizabethtown; Michael E. Shoemaker and wife Susan of Seven Valleys; and J. Scott Shoemaker of Elizabethtown; 28 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his siblings: Albert K. Shoemaker, Earl K. Shoemaker, Willis K. Shoemaker, Paul K. Shoemaker, Vere K. Shoemaker, Harvey K. Shoemaker, Ada E. Eshleman, Lester P. Shoemaker, Esther B. Zeager, Grace B. Daveler, Charles B. Shoemaker and Ralph B. Shoemaker.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018 at West Green Tree Church of the Brethren, 740 Greentree Road, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 at 2:00 PM. Viewing will be from 12:30 until the time of service. Interment will take place in the church cemetery.
