Irvin R. Geist, Jr.

Irvin R. Geist, Jr., 82, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born Monday, December 6, 1937 in Lebanon, he was the son of the late Irvin R., Sr. and Nellie (Updegrove) Geist. He was married 22 years to Mildred P. “Polly” (Long) Geist who passed away in October 2000.

Known as “Gus” or ‘Buddy”, he was retired from Waste Management where he worked for over 32 years. He was a US Air Force Veteran and a was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed telling stories, reading, watching westerns, and going to the casino. 

Buddy was one of 11 children and is survived by brother John Geist and sister Jean Geist. He was predeceased by siblings: Minnie Tucker, William Geist, Esther Smith, Charles Geist, George Geist, Naomi Frey, Anna Root, and Betty Smith. Also surviving are eight step daughters: Margaret Maltempo, Dorothy Manin, Mary Jane Lee, Elsie Kaylor, Shirley Coy, Lena Michalik, Mildred Liz Cummings and Lilly Coble; as well as grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Boyer Funeral Home, Inc., 144 East High Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 at 11:00 AM. Viewing will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will take place in Mount Tunnel Cemetery, Elizabethtown.
