Charlotte E. (Easterbrook) Stafford

Charlotte E. Stafford, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 25, 2021, in Elizabethtown, PA.  Born Charlotte Easterbrook on May 4, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Neil B. and Levora R. (Rodda) Easterbrook of Butler, NJ.

Charlotte graduated from Syracuse University summa cum laude, where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority.  It was at Syracuse where she met her future husband, Robert F. Stafford of Staten Island, NY.  Charlotte and Bob raised their four daughters in Butler and Kinnelon, NJ and later lived in Jupiter and Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Hershey, PA.  They were married 61 years, until Bob’s death in 2016.

Starting as a high school teacher after college, Charlotte later launched an imported gifts business that expanded from mail order to two shops, at a time when women business owners were still rare.  She worked tirelessly to build these businesses, while always putting her family first. Charlotte was active with Gamma Phi Beta, Women of Smoke Rise, the Community Church of Smoke Rise, and PEO International for much of her life.  

An outgoing and caring woman who made everyone feel at ease, Charlotte loved to host lively parties for friends and neighbors.  She enjoyed tennis, bridge, wide-ranging travel with Bob, painting, and time with her grandchildren. 

Charlotte was a wonderful, loving mother who leaves four daughters: Lisa McGrath (Joseph), Alice McQuade (Terrence), Ellen Stafford-Sigg (Daniel), and Susan Breidenstine (William).  Also surviving Charlotte are her ten grandchildren: Caitlin, Ryan and Brendan; Sean, Rachel and Sarah; Eric; and Ella, Laura and Clara.  She will be greatly missed but her warm smile and quick sense of humor live on with her family.

A celebration of Charlotte’s life and legacy will be held at a later date in Pennsylvania.  Arrangements have been entrusted with Boyer Funeral Home, Inc., 144 East High Street, Elizabethtown, PA, 17022, 717-367-1380. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Charlotte’s memory to UNITY, Planned Parenthood, PEO International (Philanthropic Educational Organization), or a charity of your choice.
