On Thursday, August 20, 2026, the good Lord came and took Nancy Ellen Long Pippart, 81, home to help Him tend His gardens. Nancy was the daughter of the late Wendell J. Long and Dorothy H. Long.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Eric C. Pippart, of Lancaster; a nephew, Karl A. Pippart III, of Furlong, Bucks Co., PA; her beloved sister, Susan Long Little (Tim) of Monroeville, PA; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her pet cats, Linsky, Daisy White Sox, Mama Cat, Bernie, and Sophie.
She was a life long resident of Lancaster County. She was born in St. Joseph’s Hospital and resided in Elizabethtown, PA. She graduated from Elizabethtown High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, the yearbook club, and the school newspaper. After high school, Nancy attended and graduated from the St. Joseph’s Hospital Nursing School. Upon graduating, Nancy received the Florence Nightingale Award for excellence in nursing.
After a brief career in nursing, Nancy returned home to help her mother care for her father. During this time period, Nancy began to volunteer at the Landis Valley Farm Museum, where her green thumb enabled her to become the museum’s gardener. Nancy, along with the museum’s director, Steve Miller, and Lee Stoltzfus, created, developed, and nurtured the museum’s nationally recognized and award-winning Heirloom Seed Project. For her efforts, Nancy was the volunteer of the year. Later in life, Nancy was the caregiver for her late mother.
Nancy’s hobbies included gardening, baking, reading, needlework, making quilts for family and friends for special occasions, watching NASCAR and Penn State football. Nancy qualified her backyard garden as a Natural Pollinator and a Backyard Habitat. Nancy’s favorite time periods for reading included the American Revolution, the Civil War, and WWII campaigns in the South Pacific. Her favorite quilts to make were the labor-intensive log cabin quilts, which she hand-stitched.
