D. Richard Zell

D. Richard (Dick) Zell, 85, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016. He was the son of the late Leroy S. and Grace V. (Engle) Zell and is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Kreider Zell. He lived his entire life in Elizabethtown, residing with Barbara at the Masonic Village since 2005.

Dick graduated from Elizabethtown Area High School in 1949, served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was a 1956 graduate of F&M College in Lancaster, PA. Always very mechanically inclined, he was employed as an engineer at AMP Inc. in Harrisburg, PA for 32 years and awarded over 16 design patents.

Dick was a lifelong member of the Elizabethtown Christ Lutheran Church, serving as a board member. A 32nd degree mason, he was also a 55 year member of the Zembo Shrine, Harrisburg Consistory and Abraham C. Treichler Lodge #682 F&AM, Elizabethtown.

He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and boating at his summer cabin on the Susquehanna River for 35 years. He also enjoyed hunting, sailing, photography, Penn State and Philadelphia Eagles football, extensive traveling and annual winter trips with Barbara as “snow birds” to their second residence in Florida.

In addition to his spouse, Dick is survived by a daughter, Susan and her husband Philip Kob and a son, Steven and his wife Natalie Cavanaugh Zell as well as grandchildren Michelle, Bryan, Laura and David.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 28, 2016 at the John S. Sell Memorial Chapel, Masonic Village in Elizabethtown at 11:00 AM. Guests will be greeted by the family from 10:00 AM until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Lutheran Church, 125 E. High St. Elizabethtown, PA 17022 or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, PA Keystone Chapter, 1501 Reedsdale Street, Suite 105, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15233.
